Indian Motorcycle of Winnipeg Opens its Doors

Though Indian Motorcycle has been off the radar for quite a few years, Polaris Industries is bringing back the name in a big way.

Having purchased the Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company three years ago, in 2013 they began producing the iconic motorcycles once again, and approached Headingley Sport Shop Ltd. about carrying the line.

“We were honoured when Polaris approached us to take on this iconic line,” says Mitch Ruth, co-owner of Headingley Sport Shop. “We feel it’s a great fit to what we are already doing with other motorcycle lines in our store and the addition of Indian motorcycles will only enhance and strengthen the relationships we have developed with many Manitoba motorcyclists. The Indian motorcycle line attracts the enthusiast who respects fine workmanship and wants a product that has more to offer than anything else he or she has been able to purchase in recent years.”

The exclusive dealer for not only the city of Winnipeg, but also for Saskatchewan and Northwestern Ontario, the dealership has secured the name “Indian Motorcycles of Winnipeg., Headingley, MB.”

Prior to Polaris owning the brand, it struggled with underfunding and quality issues, as well as being able to keep prices to an affordable level. However, with their ownership, they hand-picked a team of engineers to redesign the bikes while maintaining the original style and heritage.

If the public reaction to the new line says anything, it’s that Indian Motorcycle is here to stay.

“It has been overwhelming! After the 2015 Indian motorcycle demo event in early Sept, we decided to keep a model just for people to ride,” says Ruth. “Word is out on the street and everyone who gets off that Indian Motorcycle showers it with praises. ‘What a motor, I can’t believe how smooth it is,’ ‘Wow, has that thing got power!’, ‘I love the seat, it’s so comfortable.’ There really is no other way to truly understand the power, and the smooth delivery of that power through the drive line, than by driving one. We are somewhat concerned about how we will be able to keep up with the demand next spring based on the comments we have received this fall. We will be working closely with the factory to secure as much inventory as we can. Exciting times for sure!”
